Unige

University of Geneva

Founded in 1559, the University of Geneva (UNIGE) is Switzerland’s third largest university and one of the top 60 universities in the world.

The jewel in Calvin’s city, the university enjoys a solid international reputation and engages actively with other countries through academic agreements that allow students and researchers alike to broaden their horizons.

More than 17,000 students study at UNIGE every year in its nine faculties, covering the primary fields of science, medicine, arts, economics and management, social sciences, law, theology, psychology, educational sciences, and translation and interpreting.

It also has several interfaculty centers, particularly in environmental sciences. UNIGE has three missions: teaching, research and service to the city. It has been a member of the European League of Research Universities (LERU) since 2002.

International sports governance

UNIGE has developed broad expertise in many aspects of sports, in both social science (particularly sports law, sports and sustainable development, and sports-related training) and life science (particularly doping analysis in pharmacology).

In 2000, the university was involved in creating the International Academy of Sports Science and Technology (AISTS) together with EPFL and UNIL and is still heavily involved in this academy. The university’s sports-related work is boosted by the strong ties UNIGE has built with Geneva’s well-developed international community.
